Top visitor tips:

  • Love a good book? Add Bookbarn International to your itinerary if you’ve never discovered this treasure before. In the sleepy village of Hallatrow lies a large warehouse which has featured on BBC’s Dragon Den and, for good reason too. This warehouse is the largest used-book shop in the country, with millions of books divided into aisles and categories, every book outside of the antiquarian and collectable range can be purchased for £1.00! The Full Stop Café and Oriental Rugs of Bath are also housed in this farm building.
  • For aviation fans, two great museums lie within the county’s border; Fleet Air Arm Museum and The Helicopter Museum. For those happy to travel a little further, Aerospace Bristol – the home of Concorde and the Jet Age Museum provide an insight into the fascinating aviation history of the South West.
  • Walking and adventure holidays are increasing in popularity within the country. The longest path for hikers is The Mendip Way, LDWA – a 50-mile-long stretch between Weston-Super-Mare and Frome. Circular walks, coastal paths and rambling are also very popular, taking visitors off the beaten track through unspoilt Somerset villages, untouched countryside and historical locations in the region.
  • Family attractions and museums can become particularly busy during school holidays. For a quieter and more intimate experience, try visiting out of season and during off-peak times.
